2007 PRSA SPOTLIGHT AWARDS CELEBRATE SUSTAINABLE PUBLIC RELATIONS PRACTICES
PORTLAND, Ore., - Oct. 2, 2007— The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Portland Metro Chapter’s 2007 Spotlight Awards, themed “Sustaining Excellence - Spotlighting Our Best,” will showcase top PR efforts by professionals across Oregon and Southwest Washington at the World Forestry Center in Miller Hall on Thursday, October 11.
More than 200 communication professionals will gather to recognize outstanding award entries in 16 campaign categories and another 25 tactical categories. Award winners will be announced the night of the event for their progressive local PR tactics and campaigns. Public relations used to be about distributing press releases and securing media coverage – not anymore. It’s about adapting to new media while placing added focus on the impact to organizations, communities they serve, and society at-large.
“The PRSA Spotlight Awards event is an opportunity to showcase yet another aspect of the region’s creative class talent,” said Madeline Turnock, APR, PRSA Portland Metro Chapter President and Vice President of Rockey, Hill & Knowlton. At the same time, we’re setting the example for how large events can be done sustainably by partnering with Metro’s Fork it Over! program to minimize food waste, minimizing recyclable printed materials as a Recycle at Work partner, and selecting the

At the age of 79, Rockey still comes to the office every day, inspiring the next generation of PR professionals.
In addition to Rockey’s keynote address, winners of the William W. Marsh Career Distinction Award, the Ron Schmidt Community Involvement Award, and the New Professional Award of Excellence will also be recognized. The Awards of Distinction honor the achievements of outstanding individuals and organizations that are setting the standard for leadership and the use of PR for the benefit of the local community.
